Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fill out my contact form here with a little information about your writing project, including your word count, genre, and the type of editing you’re looking for.

From there, I’ll reach out within 1-2 days to discuss your project and answer any questions you might have. If we’re a good fit, I’ll send over a quote, timeline, and next steps!

  • Pricing depends on the type of service and the word count of your project. I price per word so costs stay transparent.

After reviewing your project details, I’ll provide a custom quote before any work begins so you can see if it’s in your price range.

For more details on pricing, check out my Services.

  • I like to work specifically with indie and unpublished authors, so I understand the balance between improving a manuscript and preserving the writer’s voice.

I take a more collaborative approach. I will be fair but honest, and I’ll only give you actionable feedback.

My services are also more affordable than the average editor. This is because I know what it’s like to work on a low budget and not have the money to hire an editor.

To learn more about me, see my About page.

  • Depending on your preference, I will work in Microsoft Word using Track Changes or Google Docs using Suggesting Mode so you can easily see every suggestion and decide what you’d like to accept or reject.

I am also familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS), as that is the format typical in the publishing world.

  • Reach out! I’ll let you know if your project is not a fit for my background. If desired, I will also edit your first 500 words for free to see if my editing style works for you.

  • It’s easy! I’ll email you an invoice via Squarespace. You will click the button that says “Pay Invoice,” which will open up a browser that will take you to a secure site. Here, you can pay with credit or debit, ACH bank transfer, or Cash App Pay.

Please note that I will require 50% payment upfront. You can pay the remaining 50% upon completion.

  • Beta reading is feedback focused on the overall reading experience rather than grammar or technical edits.

I’d give honest feedback on things like plot, pacing, character development, dialogue, whether the story keeps readers engaged, and anything else you might be concerned about.

  • Proofreading is the final pass-through of your manuscript. It focuses on finding small errors like typos, grammar mistakes, punctuation issues, and formatting inconsistencies.

Line editing focuses on how your writing reads sentence by sentence. I look at clarity, flow, repetition, awkward phrasing, dialogue, pacing, and overall readability.

  • The Chicago Manual of Style is one of the most widely used style guides in publishing. It provides standards for things like grammar, punctuation, capitalization, formatting, and citations.

Many fiction editors use Chicago style for manuscript editing. If you’re looking to publish your manuscript, I can ensure your manuscript follows Chicago style format during a proofread.

  • It depends on where you’re at in the writing/editing process!

If your manuscript is written but you’re wondering if the story itself works, then you probably want beta reading. This is early reader feedback focused on the story as a whole. This would probably come first on your editing journey.

Line editing is best if the story is solid but the writing needs refinement and polish. This would come before proofreading.

Do you feel that the content you have written is complete, you just want another set of eyes on it? If so, then you’re probably looking for someone to proofread it to catch any last-minute typos.
